Musical Director
The choir is directed by Jamie Conway.
Jamie Conway is a musician and teacher based in Rugby. He delivers the IGCSE, A Level and IB courses at Rugby School, directs the School Choir of over 100 students and sings with the new choir foundation ‘Rugby Choristers at Bilton Grange’. He was previously School Organist at St John’s, Leatherhead where he directed the Schola Cantorum and School Orchestra. He studied at the University of Cambridge and sang with the Choir of St John’s College, touring regularly worldwide, singing on numerous album releases and TV and radio broadcasts.
Originally from Gloucester, Jamie began his career in choral music singing with Gloucester and Truro Cathedral Choirs and continues to deputise for several choirs in London. Jamie has conducted various operas including Giulio Cesare in Trinity College Chapel, and Il signor Bruschino at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
As conductor he has worked with soloists including Stephanie Childress (violin), Laura van der Heijden (cello), Charlie Westhoff (violin), Edward Jowle (bass-baritone), Samuel Huston (clarinet), and Sophie Westbrooke (recorder). He has assisted the Cambridge University Symphony Chorus, Cambridgeshire Choral Society, Cornwall Youth Choir, Ubique, and was Vice President of the Cambridge University Opera Society, working on Carmen, L’elisir d’amore, Trouble in Tahiti, among others. Jamie has performed operatic roles including Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Le Dancaïre (Carmen).
Jamie studied at Uppingham School and, whilst there along with Susie Hill, founded the 9.5 Singers who now boast several million views on TikTok! In his spare time, he likes road tripping and is a glider pilot. Jamie is very excited to be back working in Rutland and is looking forward to building strong relationships with the Rutland community across the county.
