Sing With Bob Chilcott

Saturday 14 May 2022, 9.30am till 4pm

We, the Rutland Choral Society, are planning a very special day to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. We are having a Workshop titled ‘Come and Sing Day with Bob Chilcott’! This will take place on Saturday, 14th May 2022, a whole day of singing in our usual rehearsal venue, the wonderfully spacious, light and airy Pavilion at Rutland Showground LE15 7TW.

Bob Chilcott is one of the world’s premier composers and choral conductors. For more information see www.bobchilcott.com.

Our talented pianist Paul Butler will be the accompanist for the day.

Bob Chilcott will be guiding us through 2 pieces of his music:

Songs My Heart has Taught me: in this passionate four-movement work with lyrics from Delphine Chalmers explores themes of inclusivity, identity and unity.

Five Days that Changed the World: with text from Charles Bennett, this choral work takes singers through 5 historical events: the invention of printing, the abolition of slavery, the first powered flight, the discovery of penicillin and the first man on space.

The ticket price of £25 (plus booking fee) includes music hire and refreshments in the morning break and afternoon break. No prior knowledge of the music is required and anybody, irrespective of singing ability or experience, is welcome to come and join in. All music will be provided for the occasion on loan and there will be an opportunity to purchase the music scores at the end of the day. (Singers under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult and will need to complete a parental consent form).

We suggest you either bring a picnic lunch, which you are welcome to enjoy in the building or outside on the terrace or you might like to drive into the centre of Oakham, which is 5 mins drive away. Friends and family are welcome to come at 15.30 to hear a runthrough of the music we have explored during the day and then to join us for tea and cakes afterwards

This workshop is bound to be a massively popular event and early booking will be essential.

Come and help us to celebrate our 50th anniversary with a day full of fun, laughter and wonderful singing!
